a little background

I’m Deborah Payne and I live in central Florida, near the Atlantic coast. I have a BFA in graphic design from the University of Illinois. My design career started at IBM and from there I went on to work with companies large and small. I’ve crafted everything from logos and infographics to posters and award-winning annual reports. Alongside my corporate work, I, along with my oldest daughter, designed a line of greeting cards exhibited at the New York Stationery Show. We were honored to receive three prestigious Louie Awards from the National Greeting Card Association.

inspirations

My artwork is influenced by the order, grids and forms of graphic design as well as the simplicity and elegance of Asian art and patterns. I enjoy the interplay of of geometric forms with organic shapes and fibers. Making new things from old — whether weaving together scraps of paper or reassembling pieces of vintage jewelry — evokes a theme of redemption and transformation.

legacy

I desire for my work to shine light in the darkness, bringing a sense of peace and joy to a world that needs hope. My faith is what inspires me. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
